This morning as you travel along the Trans-Canada Highway from Banff to Golden, you will drive through Yoho National Park where you will get to explore more natural wonders. Yoho National Park boasts towering rock walls, spectacular waterfalls and 28 peaks over 3,000 meters in height. The Takakkaw Falls are among the highest in Canada and the gateway to some of Yoho’s most beautiful hiking. Feel the spray at the base of the falls or enjoy views from afar. At 30 meters high and 150 meters wide, Wapta Falls is the largest waterfall on the Kicking Horse River and can be accessed by a 2.4km gentle hiking trail that departs from a trailhead 2km off the Trans-Canada Highway. The Emerald Lake offers superb walking and paddling. Picnic on the lakeshore or dine in luxury at one of two restaurants. Stop at the Natural Bridge along the way and admire the Kicking Horse River as it carves a path through ancient rock. These are beautiful places to explore so enjoy the day at your leisure. Today you will depart Golden towards Salmon Arm. Along your way stop at Glacier National Park and experience famous old-growth forests with a leisurely stroll around Hemlock Grove Boardwalk, a barrier-free trail that passes beneath soaring ancient hemlocks. Witness the transition from cedar-hemlock rainforest to subalpine spruce and fir, all within Glacier Park. Meeting of the Waters Trail takes you on a 30-minute loop that includes a bridge over the meeting point of Asulkan Brook and the Illecillewaet River. Continue along the Trans-Canada Highway to Mount Revelstoke National Park. Its hiking trails range from short, valley-bottom strolls, to steep, tough climbs with some offering spectacular panoramic views. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway is a 16 mile paved road that leads to the 2,223 meter summit of Mount Revelstoke. Winding uphill, it takes you through forests of cedar and hemlock, spruce and fir to the renowned subalpine wildflower meadows of Mount Revelstoke National Park. There are three lookouts along the way offering views over the town of Revelstoke and the surrounding mountains. Continue on to Salmon Arm where you will stay overnight.

Before you depart Salmon Arm this morning, keep in mind you have a 5 hour drive to Vancouver so you will want to plan accordingly. Along BC-5/Coquihalla Highway is Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park. In the early 1900s, the Canadian Pacific Railway linked the Kootenay Region with the BC coast by rail. The railway was built over three mountain ranges. In the Coquihalla Gorge – the river cut a 300 foot deep channel of solid granite. A straight line of tunnels were built through it, now known as the Othello Tunnels. There are spectacular viewing opportunities available on the trail, through the tunnels and on the bridges. About 39 miles southeast from Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park is E. C. Manning Provincial Park. This will take you about 45 minutes out of your way however, there is a large variety of walking and hiking trails as well as an excellent opportunity to view a variety of wildlife. The animal life includes squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, pika, coyotes, beaver, muskrat, deer, bear, moose and most members of the cat family. And more than 200 bird species have been spotted there. Some good locations include: Beaver Pond, Rein Orchid, and the Similkameen Trail. Continue on to Vancouver.
