FLY AND DRIVE

DAY 01: ARRIVE IN VANCOUVER, BC

Arrive at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and transfer independently to your hotel. The rest of your day is at your leisure. You may choose to venture out to the Gastown District. This area has retained its historic charm and independent spirit with Victorian architecture, charming boutiques, one-of-a-kind galleries and some of the best culinary fare in Vancouver. A visit to Gastown should include a stroll along Water Street, where you’ll find a picture-perfect collection of old buildings, cobblestones, the Steam Clock, and vintage lampposts.

DAY 02: VANCOUVER, BC

Today you will have the full day to explore Vancouver. If you are looking for an adventure, we have just the thing for you. We suggest the Vancouver City and Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Tour. This comprehensive tour will take you see spectacular waterfront landmarks including the sails of Canada Place and the bustling Robson Street shopping strip. Then soak in the view over Lions Gate Bridge as you venture to the adrenaline-pumping Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Next up are the sandy shores of English Bay on the west side of Stanley Park, then Granville Island, and a scenic drive through historic Chinatown and Gastown. This tour is approximately 6 hours in length. If you decide to explore Vancouver on your own, the following are a few of the most notable attractions to include: the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Vancouver Aquarium, Stanley Park Horse-Drawn Tour, FlyOver Canada, Vancouver Lookout, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

DAY 03: VANCOUVER – OSOYOOS, BC

This morning you will depart Vancouver and start your drive to Osoyoos. Along the way, get your healing on with a dip in a hot spring. The public pool located at Harrison Hot Springs Resort combines two hot springs located at the south end of Harrison Lake, the Potash and the Sulphur. This public pool is accessible to non-guests of the resort for a fee. Your journey from Harrison Hot Springs will take you through E. C. Manning Provincial Park. There is a large variety of walking and hiking trails as well as an excellent opportunity to view a variety of wildlife. You can see squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, pika, coyotes, beaver, muskrat, deer, bear, moose and most members of the cat family, as well as over 200 bird species. Continue on to Osoyoos. Located at the southern end of Okanagan wine country, Osoyoos features more than 20 wineries within 13 miles of the town center. Tour and taste locally at Nk’Mip Cellars, Twisted Tree Vineyards and Winery and LaStella Winery. Drive north to visit the wineries of the Golden Mile, the Black Sage Bench and North Oliver. South Okanagan is one of the most beautiful places to sip and savor some of the top rated wines in Canada. Cheers! Overnight in Osoyoos.

DAY 04: OSOYOOS – SALMON ARM – REVELSTOKE, BC

From Osoyoos you will want to take Route 97 north to Revelstoke. Route 97 is North America’s longest continuous north-south highway that offers you breathtakingly diverse cultures, wildlife, natural wonders and memorable stops along the way. Walk into local history at the RJ Haney Heritage Village & Museum in Salmon Arm. Visit the 1910 farmhouse, Mt. Ida Church, Broadview School, 1890s homesteader’s log cabin, and more. Or stop at Pedro’s Farm & Garden Market where you can purchase fresh local fruits and vegetables produced by family farmers. Or wander among the apple trees and take home fresh-picked apples at U-cut garden at Hanna & Hanna Farm Market. Continue on to Mount Revelstoke National Park. Its hiking trails range from short, valley-bottom strolls, to steep, tough climbs with some offering spectacular panoramic views. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway is a 16 mile paved road that leads to the 2,223 meter summit of Mount Revelstoke. Winding uphill, it takes you through forests of cedar and hemlock grove, spruce and fir to the renowned subalpine wildflower meadows of Mount Revelstoke National Park. Overnight in Revelstoke.

DAY 05: REVELSTOKE – GLACIER NATIONAL PARK OF CANADA – BANFF, AB

This morning you will depart Revelstoke and drive along the Trans-Canada Highway through Glacier National Park of Canada. You can experience famous old-growth forests with a leisurely stroll around the Hemlock Grove Boardwalk, a barrier-free trail that passes beneath ancient hemlocks. Meeting of the Waters Trail takes you on a 30-minute loop that includes a bridge over the meeting point of Asulkan Brook and the Illecillewaet River. If you prefer mountain trekking, the 20-minute Rockgarden Trail will take you along a boardwalk, up rock staircases and through hillsides strewn with moss covered boulders. The top of the trail offers a sweeping one-of-a-kind view of the Selkirk Mountain wilderness. As your journey continues, you will drive through Yoho National Park where you can explore towering rock walls, spectacular waterfalls and 28 peaks over 3,000 meters in height. The Takakkaw Falls are among the highest in Canada and the gateway to some of Yoho’s most beautiful hiking. Continue on to Banff for your two night stay.

DAY 06: BANFF /BANFF NATIONAL PARK, AB

Today you will have the full day to explore Banff. Nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site Banff National Park, the town of Banff offers unparalleled rugged beauty. Its pristine mountain ranges and lush wilderness are perfect for those who want to experience nature. Take a Gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain for breathtaking panoramic views of six mountain ranges and the town of Banff far below. Then hike along the walkway to Sanson’s Peak and watch for wildlife. Perhaps discover Banff and its wildlife on a guided
tour. You will visit Banff’s landmarks and historic places, and learn about its wildlife. Want a real thrill? Then experience whitewater rafting in the Canadian Rockies! From Class II to Class IV+ rapids, you will feel your heart beating faster with the thrill of anticipation as your raft gets ready to bounce through the whitewater.

DAY 07: BANFF – LAKE LOUIS – JASPER NATIONAL PARK – VALEMOUNT, BC

This morning you will drive from Banff along Icefields Parkway towards Jasper National Park. You will want to stop at Lake Louise, which is world famous for its turquoise lakes, the Victoria Glacier, and its soaring mountain backdrop. To get a closer look, you can rent a canoe from the Lake Louise Boathouse or walk around the Shoreline Trail to the Victoria Glacier. The hiking in the Lake Louise area is some of the most scenic and spectacular in the world. From Lake Louise, you will take Icefields Parkway to Jasper. This stretch of road named ‘One of the World’s Most Spectacular Drives’ by National Geographic, is dotted with more than 100 ancient glaciers, cascading waterfalls, dramatic rock spires, and emerald lakes set in sweeping valleys of thick pine and dense forests. Next, it’s on to exploring Jasper National Park at your leisure. Continue on to Valemount for your overnight stay.

DAY 08: VALEMOUNT - PRINCE GEORGE, BC

Before you leave Valemount this morning you may choose to explore the Jasper area a little more. Board the longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada and be amazed as you gain a new perspective of Jasper’s stunning National Park. Your seven minute flight aboard the Jasper Skytram will take you to an altitude of 2,277 meters and give you endless views of six mountain ranges, glacially fed lakes, rivers and of course the mountain town of Jasper. From Valemount, you will take BC-5 until you reach Tete Jaune Cache, and then you get on
Yellowhead Highway 16. Northern BC’s east-west corridor Highway 16 has great attractions and incredible scenery. Stop as often or little as you like. One such attraction is the Ancient Forest Recreation Site in Fraser Fort George. View enormous ancient cedar trees within BC’s inland rainforest with an easy to moderate hike. The trail is marked with interpretative signage and leads you to a beautiful waterfall. Continue on and you will come up to Purden Lake Provincial Park. This park is located just east of Prince George and on the north shore of Purden Lake. Canoe, kayak, or hike, enjoy this park at your leisure. Overnight in Prince George.

DAY 09: PRINCE GEORGE – SMITHERS, BC

Continuing on Yellowhead Highway 16 you will drive beyond Prince George, through the rolling hills, farms and forests, and into the charming town of Vanderhoof. Just 38 miles north of Vanderhoof is Fort St. James National Historical Site. This site, located on spectacular Stuart Lake, is a fully restored Hudson’s Bay Company post commemorating the partnership between the fur traders and First Nations from 1806 to 1952. The site includes the largest group of original wooden buildings representing the fur trade in Canada. Before you reach
you Smithers, your destination for the evening, you may want to see Babine Mountains Provincial Park. It is located off of Babine Lake Road from Highway 16. With Glacier-fed lakes, rugged peaks and extensive sub-alpine meadows, this area within the Skeena Mountains eco-section offers some of the finest hiking opportunities in west-central BC. Overnight in Smithers.

DAY 10: SMITHERS – PRINCE RUPERT, BC

From Smithers you will drive along Highway 16 past the Seven Sisters Provincial Park and Protected Area, aptly named for the spectacular set of peaks visible from Highway 16 between Hazelton and Terrace. Continue on to Prince Rupert, located on Kaien Island. With more animals than people on and around the island and BC, there are many opportunities to view wildlife in their natural habitat. You can get up close and view these extraordinary grizzly bears in their natural environment as you travel to the rugged coastal mountains and pristine wilderness of the Khutzeymateen Valley, home to one of the highest concentrations of grizzly bears in North America. Or, go whale watching on the North Coast and see grey whales feeding, humpback whales flashing their tails, and orcas following the migrating salmon. Overnight in Prince Rupert.

*Please note, tomorrow you will need to get an early start because your ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy leaves at 7:30am.

DAY 11: PRINCE RUPERT VIA FERRY TO PORT HARDY, BC

Ferry departs Prince Rupert at 7:30am and arrives in Port Hardy by 11:30am. Home to the Kwakiutl, Gwa’Sala- ‘Nakwaxda’xw, and Quatsino First Nations, Port Hardy and the surrounding area is rich in tradition and deeprooted in native culture. A visit to Fort Rupert will give you a look into BC’s oldest known indigenous culture of the Kwakiutl First Nations. View carefully carved totems and the intricate details designs on the big house, or stop in at the Copper Maker’s Gallery. The Nakwakto Rapids & Cultural tour is a breathtaking experience. A scenic boat ride brings you to the site of the most powerful tidal currents in the world. Catch glimpses of abandon settlements and visit traditional village sites as you journey into the depths of the traditional territory of the Gwa’Sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nation. Later in the day, take a waterfront walk along the seawall of Hardy Bay. A coastal
view like non other on Northern Vancouver Island, take in the stunning sights of BC’s coastal mountain range, First Nations totems and read interpretive wildlife signage along the way. Overnight in Port Hardy.

DAY 12: PORT HARDY – TOFINO, BC

You will want to get an early start this morning. It is a minimum 6-hour drive to Tofino. From Port Hardy, you will take BC-19 and drive along Nimpkish Lake. Once you arrive in Campbell River, you have a choice to continue on BC-19 or take BC-19A / Island Highway and drive along the coast. As well as a beautiful drive, you can stop off at your leisure. Before you get to Qualicum Beach you will want to get back on BC-19 and then onto BC-4 / Pacific West Highway to Tofino. Along here you will want to stop by the Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. This little gem is one of the most beautiful parks on central Vancouver Island. Cascading waterfalls, lake swimming, shaded riverside trails, and picnic facilities makes this park a very popular family recreation destination. Continue towards Tofino along the northern edge of the Pacific Rim National Park. Drive through spectacular Cathedral Grove, historic Port Alberni, and on the winding road around Sproat and Kennedy Lakes. Then you will drive through scenic Sutton Pass. Get your camera ready, you may see some black bears along Pacific Rim Highway 4. Continue on to Tofino for your hotel stay.

DAY 13: TOFINO, BC

This morning you have a full day to explore Tofino. Instead of a whale watching tour, take a bear watching tour! Experience bears in their own environment as they search along the beaches for food, all the while you remain at a safe distance in the boat. Clayoquot Sound is home to a large number of resident black bears, making it prime for bear watching. You can also expect to see eagles, seals, sea lions and other wildlife as you cruise along the shoreline. Later in the day you can experience spectacular ocean views that are offered on a range of hikes around Ucluelet (pronounced Yew-Kloo-Let). Located approximately 25 miles south of Tofino, Ucluelet is a small village with a lot to offer. Check out Big Tree Trail on Meares Island. Explore some of the most giant and ancient trees in North America, the Hanging Garden Tree and Poster Tree are both Western Red Cedars and are over 1,000 years old. To get there, hop on a boat or kayak from a local charter company and cruise Tofino’s calm inside waters up Lemmens Inlet to Meares Island.

DAY 14: TOFINO – VICTORIA, BC

From Tofino, you will drive along the northern edge of the Pacific Rim National Park and then along the coast for most of the way. Stop at your leisure and explore. A must see is Goldstream Provincial Park, located just 10 miles from downtown Victoria. Goldstream Provincial Park is home to massive trees that are over 600 years old, majestic waterfalls, flowers, birds, fascinating fish, and a meandering river that meets the sea. Trails throughout the park lead to various features and viewpoints, including the stunning Niagara Falls (which at 156 feet is almost at high as its famous namesake), that cascades down a rock cliff into a crystal clear canyon pool below. Continue on to Victoria. If you arrive early enough, you can take the Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-off CitySights Tour. This gives you a comprehensive look at the best attractions around the city including the Fairmont Empress Hotel, Craigdarroch Castle, Chinatown and Old Town, Fisherman’s Wharf, Panoramic Inner Harbour, the Parliament Buildings, Christ Church Cathedral, the Oak Bay Village and Marina, the Cook Street Village, and more.

DAY 15: VICTORIA VIA FERRY TO VANCOUVER, BC

The ferry from Victoria departs Schwartz Bay beginning at 7am and then every hour on the hour until 7pm. The total drive and ferry transfer time will be approximately 3 hours, so you want to plan your day accordingly. You may choose to get an early start to Vancouver or spend some time this morning exploring attractions you may have missed in Victoria. A great place to start your day is at Butchart Gardens. Located about 14 miles north of Victoria, this group of floral display gardens has been in bloom for over a 100 years and is designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Early morning visitors are rewarded with great, soft lighting for photographs. Next, enjoy a leisure lunch. Victoria offers hundreds of restaurants, bistros, bars, breweries, cafés, and produce markets to choose from. And because it is surrounded by rich farming regions and coastal waters, Victoria’s restaurants and cafés are blessed with an abundance of local ingredients. Once you arrive by ferry to Tsawwassen, continue on to Vancouver. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight in Vancouver.
